Strategic thinking - Strategic planning to win at chess

Thinking strategically is a process.

Strategic Planning

“When your headlights aren’t on, the best rearview mirror available isn’t likely to improve your driving.” Marth Rogers

Strategic Planning is a methodical process that illuminates the path forward. It weaves synergies across the company’s actions and its people, creating a strong fabric that supports development and growth.

At verve, we will:

  1. Conduct an environmental analysis (internal and external) and consultation (stakeholders)
  2. Define/affirm/reset: Vision (what do you want to be when you grow up), Mission (what do you want to accomplish), Values (guiding principals)
  3. Identify prioritized goals that lead to the attainment of the vision, support the implementation of the mission, and align with the values
  4. Establish commitment and ownership for decisive execution

We will ensure that goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely), structurally framing expectations.

Some people get caught in the process of operationalizing the goals.  We will work with you to ensure that workplans are thorough and pragmatic for efficient implementation.

We can also help with due diligence—the health barometer of the program. Evaluating progress and adjusting course is what makes goals SMARTER (Evaluated and Revise). Goals are not set in stone. Both goals and workplans need to be agile to adjust to changes in the environment and resources.

Strategy is the name of the game. Planning is the process.

Coaching and Facilitation

verve can support your strategic planning process with coaching or facilitation.

Through coaching, verve provides process guidance and asks the tough questions.

As facilitators, workshops enable participants to focus their energy on the inputs. They are designed to engage stakeholders, draw out meaningful discussion, guide conclusions, and foster accountability.
